The Conga originated back in 2008 when a women nicknamed ‘Flo‘ bought a motorcycle from Ride Like a Pro in Hudson, Florida.

She knew that after picking up her bike it would be a very long ride back home. Flo decided to contact her Internet friends to ride along with her. Many escorted her some 6000 miles across the continent, dancing her safely home. Hence the name Conga – like the dance. The Women Who Ride Internet group took Flo into their homes, fed her, rode with her, and treated her like a Queen. At the last moment Flo decided to do it for a cause as she was receiving so much attention. She chose cancer as the man who had taught her how to ride, had recently passed from cancer. Also Flo had lost her younger sister and best friend at the young age of 40. $1700 was raised at the last moment as people were paying her so much for each State she hit. Of course she snagged a few corners of state.

In 2009, Flo’s husband also bought a bike from Ride Like a Pro and another full blown Conga was born. Conga II was bigger and better then the last.

Flo decided this amazing event should do some good and go towards a cause. And the Women Who Ride decided to raise money for breast cancer research because cancer directly affects all of us. So they dressed up in pink, outrageously decorated their bikes in pink, and hit the road to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. That year, Conga II managed to raise $12,000.

In 2010 it was decided to meet in the geographic middle, Cheyenne, Wyoming. To their surprise, more women and men riders participated. Together, they surpassed their goal and Conga III raised $36,600 for the fight against breast cancer.

In 2011 they all did it again, in Shell, Wyoming, raising another $38,000, with more people, more pink, more awareness!
